Ingrid's story from camper to counselor.
COMING OF AGE:
Ingrid has grown up in Solidarity's youth programs since first grade. She has always had a kind and gentle spirit. She is very smart but very shy. As the opportunity to be an IMPACT leader arose, Ingrid diligently progressed through the levels meeting each commitment and goal.
Level Two of IMPACT focuses on servant leadership and outreach, training youth to think beyond themselves and teaching them to invest in their community. Strategically placed at the completion of Level Two, IMPACT students are given the opportunity to go to summer camp in Oregon/Washington through Beaverton Foursquare Church as a cabin leader responsible for a group of 6th graders for a week. It is an opportunity to put all the skills from Levels One and Two into practice and truly experience servant-leadership.
As the week unfolded for Ingrid, so did the ups and downs that come with being responsible for a group of pre-teen girls. Ingrid was pushed in all areas: confronting conflict, realizing where her own abilities ran out, and deeply relying on God in order to influence these young girls. As a result of pushing into God, Ingrid gained a new confidence and walked with a new freedom. In a debrief after camp, Ingrid articulated that she experienced growth. She shared that she did not only give away as a leader, but she also received from witnessing the faith journey her 6th grade girls experienced.
Those who have known Ingrid were able to quickly see the evident transformation. She continued to own her identity as a leader in the community even when she returned home. Ingrid is now a freshman in college and working while still pushing through Level Four as an IMPACT leader.
THE ACTUAL COST OF THE CAMP IS $18,185.00 (25 students) BUT THANKS TO OUR GENEROUS PARTNERSHIP WITH BEAVERTON FOURSQUARE, SOLIDARITY PAYS $6,500.00!
Level 3 IMPACT Leaders & 6th Graders get to travel to the Pacific North West to experience a week of summer camp in partnership with Beaverton Foursquare Church. Our IMPACT leaders serve as cabin leaders, growing in their servant leadership as they’re responsible for a group of 6th graders. Everyone gets to venture into the excitement of traveling to two new states via airplane and experiencing the way God is at work in a totally different place.
HOW TO SPONSOR A CAMPER:
We want to send 100 individuals to camp. It costs about $150 per camper. Would you be willing to sponsor just one day of camp ($50), or a camper for the entire weekend ($150), or even a cabin of six campers ($900). Each and every donation helps.
