FREQUENTLY ASKED Questions (FAQ)

  • We are only accepting BRAND NEW books. Why? One of Solidarity’s core values is recognizing dignity in others. We want to make sure that our students and neighbors receive the very best. If you have a used book we encourage you to donate it to your local library or refer to our last question below.

  • We did all that work for you. All you have to do is fill out the Flip The Ratio Form to receive an Amazon List full of books our programs have selected.

  • We have an event on Saturday, Oct 8th where we will be distributing the books to the neighborhood.

Please have all Amazon List orders completed by Sunday, Oct 2nd, to assure that the books are delivered on time.

Drop any BRAND NEW books off to Solidarity 601 Community Center by Thursday, Oct 6th.

  • We have a Block Party Event for our neighbors on October 8th. We will pass out the books to each student in the community. If you would like to volunteer for the event, email partner@solidaritynpo.org to let us know that you are interested.

And as long as you fill out the initial form, you will receive a follow up email informing you of the collective impact made in the neighborhood through your book donation.

  • You can drop off any BRAND NEW book to Solidarity’s 601 Community Center (601 E. Valencia Dr. Fullerton, CA 92832), Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm.

  • We would prefer that you purchase a book on the Amazon List because the featured books were intentionally selected to feature stories & characters that our students would identify with. However, if you would like to donate your favorite children’s book, that is not on the Amazon List, we will not stop you. Please just make sure it is age appropriate for 1st-12th graders.

  • We would like make sure we can send everyone who donates a book an email about how many books were raised, students and families impacted.

Also we will send out more information about how you can help pass out or see the donated books distributed to the students in the neighborhood on October 8th.

Lastly if you would like to make a further impact, we are looking for book readers. To get involved with our After School Program’s 20 min reading time to help increase literacy within the community, look out for the email or email partner@solidaritynpo.org.

  • Having age-appropriate reading books in the home increases the access and opportunity for students to grow in reading confidence and develop a love for literacy.

“[Reading] helps grow [a student’s] vocabulary and their understanding about the world…The closeness of snuggling up with a favorite book leads to an increase in self-confidence and imagination, and helps children gain a wealth of knowledge from the books you share. And it only takes 15 minutes a day of reading together to nurture this growth.”

    - Carol Anne St. George, EdD, an associate professor and literacy expert at the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education

  • If you clicked on this question, then you are the type of individual we want to be connected with because you understand that fighting for Educational Equity is much more than donating a book..

YES YES YES! While there are systemic & policy issues that create inequity, understanding that fighting for Educational Equity is much more than donating a book. We seek to initially provide multiple ways low commitment ways to address the barrier of Education Inequity following the book drive.

If you would like to make a further impact, we are looking for book readers. To get involved with our After School Program’s 20 min reading time to help increase literacy within the community, email partner@solidaritynpo.org.

Another way you can do something more is by volunteering to pass out the donated books to the students in the neighborhood on October 8th. If you are interested email parter@solidaritynpo.org.

  • If you did not receive an email with the Amazon List or you are having any issues trying to submit the Flip The Ratio form, please contact us at partner@solidarityNPO.org.

  • At this time, Solidarity does not have need of “slightly worn” or “used” books as Flip The Ratio is asking for BRAND NEW books to be given to our students and our two community center libraries are full of books.

Fortunately, the City of Fullerton’s Public Library has “The Friends Shed” which accepts donated books Mon-Thr (10a-5p) and Fri/Sat (10a-4p).
