Tilt outdoors

intentional experiences in nature can lead to significant transformation in the lives of youth in high risk situations

WHY THE NAME?

The 23.5-degree tilt of the earth allows life to thrive on our planet. Without the tilt we would experience destructive patterns impossible to survive.  Because of the earth’s tilt, it becomes possible to survive and flourish. We strive to create this same “tilt” effect in the lives of youth by providing outdoor adventure experiences that fuel life.

How we do it:

The program combines outdoor adventure activities, experiential teaching, disruptive storytelling, and mentoring that results in the movement away from destructive and violent patterns of life towards life-fueling ones for youth in high-risk situations.

We create intentional adventure experiences through Fishing, Hiking, Camping, and rock climbing.

  • Being in nature does something to us. We engage differently with ourselves, others, and all of our senses. Experiences in nature allow students to be disconnected and introspective. They create lifelong memories that accelerate relational bonds with self and others. When utilized effectively, outdoor adventure experiences in nature become a co-facilitator of change.

  • We offer a handcrafted curriculum tailored to youth who have experienced living in high-risk environments and varying levels of trauma. Our teaching approach starts with intentional outdoor adventure that increases an individuals ability to see and accept healthy life patterns.

  • Real-life stories that highlight movement from destructive to thriving patterns of life, when told by people that youth connect and identify with, begin to disrupt destructive patterns by connecting the dots towards thriving ones.

  • Having a trusted adult that youth can count on and feel safe with is key. This grows confidence and resilience as youth move towards a thriving trajectory. Trusted mentors help youth set goals, see them through, and let them know that it’s ok even when things don’t always go as planned.

Made possible by: 2024 Vamos A Pescar Program

We are proud to announce that Solidarity has been awarded our 3rd year of funding through the George H.W. Bush Vamos a Pescar Education Fund for our "Tilt Outdoors Neighborhood Fishing Program."  As one of four organizations in the state of California to receive this funding, we are thankful to have the opportunity to bring fishing experiences to several underserved neighborhoods in Orange County who lack access to the outdoors. In 2024 we will provide fishing opportunities for all ages with our: Elementary After School Fishing Programs, Teen Boating and Fishing trips, and Family Fishing Campouts.
